Knowledge On Salmon Fishing Lures

By Kenya England

Fishing is not just a hobby. It is said to be an art too. It takes more than fixing bait and casting the line in the water. You need to know about the preferred prey of the target fish. In addition you should get the timing right and the approach used should be effective. Having the right salmon fishing lures is crucial too.

There are many lures to choose from when fishing for lax. What you should bear in mind is that poor choices will give you disappointing results. The salmon do not easily take baits. For this reason, the lure should be chosen carefully and the proper approach employed.

Baits can be either artificial or live. The live ones are used most of the times. Since they are actually alive, they are able to move on their own in water and it is easy for the fish to think that they are genuine. Their smell is an added advantage because it attracts a fish. Eggs are the leading live baits. They are bright, colorful and cheap. In addition, they happen to be the tastiest treats for salmon.

Minnows are also live lures. They are effective in angling for many of the freshwater fish. A precaution to be observed in their use is ensuring they are alive indeed. Sand shrimp is a popular lax lure too. The drawback in their use is the cost. It is fairly expensive. They are not easy to rig too. To note is that they are the best to use provided that you can afford them and you are patient.

The market is flooded with artificial baits. Silver spoon is an artificial lure available readily in the market. It has an oval hollow at the hook which flaps and flares when in water to attract the fish. Spinner bait on the hand has metallic blades which spin in water to create movements.

Cut plugs have a solid frame and resemble a small fish. They are heavily hooked. All artificial lax lures are shiny and brightly colored. Regardless of the lure type, color should always be considered. Because the fish species is found in the deepest parts of the river or lake, purple, green, UV or blue color should be used. These colors are clear even when the depth is dark.

Trolling is the recommended technique in salmon fishing. It involves fishing while the boat is constantly moving. Staying in one position for extended period of time or letting the lure stop moving will make them suspicious and they are not likely to take the bait.

Weights and divers are used to make baits go deep into the water. Salmons will be found at the bottom-most parts of the water bodies and move continuously. The lure should have the same characteristics too. When making the cast, do it at the point a fish are moving towards. They will detect it readily. If the lure is live, a fish will be attracted by its smell. Salmon fishing is so much fun and productive if the right lures are used.
