Improve Your Health With Folsom Blues Half Marathon Training

By Maria Allen

Many people dream of one day running in a marathon, but few actually do so. The biggest barrier to achieving this dream is often conditioning. It takes a great amount of cardiovascular endurance in order to participate in one, and some just don't have it. However, you can join a group for Folsom Blues Half Marathon Training in order to get into the right condition.

If the name of the marathon sounds familiar, that is because it is a tribute to the famous song by the legendary Johnny Cash. Fans and people who want to participate come from all over to the city of Folsom for the event. It was started in 2012 and now hotels fill up in advance for all the visitors.

The entire race starts on the local Johnny Cash bridge in yet another homage to the country music legend. It goes on for 13.1 miles, which is a great length for people who don't quite have the endurance for a full race. It also provides plenty of places for observers to come and cheer on the participants, including the gorgeous Lake Natoma and the Historical District of Folsom. Along the way, there will be Rockabilly music played. Once you finish, you get to enjoy a tribute band to the late singer, plus a free beer.

Most people train for quite awhile in order to get into shape for a marathon. This is only a half marathon though, so the 13.1 miles is easy to walk if you are not ready. You can get ready though, by joining a local group that helps you set a pace and increase it until you are in shape.

No matter what shape you are in, there is a group of people who are at your level. You start with that group, and the goal is to get better and faster so that you can move up. Even if you want to walk and just don't want to get winded, there is a group for that as well. You will find that within a few sessions, your gait and pace will improve dramatically.

There are groups that start in summer and go into the fall. There are also some that start in winter and go into spring. That means that this is a long term commitment. With so many weeks in each session, if you go regularly to jog or walk, you will definitely see improvement in how you feel.

Even after the marathon, most people keep going to the group sessions. Some are training for the next year, or perhaps for another marathon that is coming up. Some just want to keep feeling healthy and strong. You may also have made some really great friends, and want to keep seeing them each week while you jog.

For some, the groups are a one time thing, and they drop out after the race is over because they don't plan to run another one. But for many, the benefits and increased confidence in themselves when they lose weight and feel strong are something that they want to continue. It becomes a part of their lifestyle, and can be a part of yours too if you want to get healthier.
