Lessons In Krav Maga Oklahoma

By Margaret Cook

Nobody wants to find themselves walking alone late at night or trying to find their car in a dark parking lot by themselves. Scary stories about people being attacked in such situations are everywhere, which just adds to the anxiety. But if you learn how to defend yourself using Krav Maga Oklahoma, you will be prepared if you do ever find yourself the victim of an attack, which could truly save your life.

Krav Maga is actually Hebrew, meaning 'contact combat' because that is essentially what it is at its core. It is a set of very practical self-defense moves that are meant to help you fend off aggressive attacks so that you can down your attacker and run for safety. The moves are simple and aggressive to help you survive threats and attacks.

You could learn a wide variety of self-defense techniques and disciplines to help you in case of an attack. However, Krav Maga is one of the best. This is because the moves themselves are fairly easy to learn and master. It does not take long to become proficient, which means you are ready to defend faster. In the process, you will likely find yourself shedding some pounds and building muscle, too.

This discipline is often taught to military and law enforcement personnel. In fact in Israel, where it was invented, it is taught to all military personnel as part of their basic training. Fortunately, you do not have to be a soldier or a cop to learn it. In fact, you don't need to have any formal martial arts training at all to learn. All fitness levels can join as well.

There is no need to be in shape or get in shape to take these classes. Just show up and be ready and willing to work. The instructors know how to break things down to make them easy for all proficiency levels, so you will pick things up quickly and easily.

There is a good chance that your instructor will at some point focus on the mindset you need for Krav Maga. Statistics have proven that the nerves and fear associated with being attacked make you around 50 percent less likely to remember the moves you learned. But if you get into the right mindset, you will recall things easier.

There are many local studios and gyms that can get you started on your path to learning and eventually mastering Krav Maga. They usually have classes with other people, some large and some small. However, if you would prefer a private class, many instructors are willing to have a one-on-one session for an extra fee. The amount of classes per week depends upon your schedule. Many are once or twice a week, possibly more.

Some gyms will offer you a free trial class to start. This means they waive the usual fee so you can try a class without any pressure and make sure it is right for you. If you decide you do like the class, you can then sign up for additional classes and be on your way to protecting yourself from potential harm.
