Choosing Travel Trailers For Sale

By Harriett Crosby

If you are looking for travel trailers for sale it is important to know what to expect ahead of time. Many people do not know the difference between a motor home, a camping trailer and a travel trailer. Campers and travelers are similar but the size and amenities are worlds apart. Motor homes are in a class by themselves and cannot be compared to a trailer because they are driven rather than towed.

Travelers are meant to be towed by a van or truck and designed to give you all of the comforts of home. They contain baths with hot water, refrigerators, two to four burner stoves, ovens and relatively large living spaces. Many come with pop up sky lights and awnings for the outer front area.

Every manufacturer will offer several different model and floor plans to choose from. When walking into the living areas you will see that they are very luxurious. They contain a complete cooking and food preparation area as well as a full bath complete with hot water for bathing. For the buyer who wants to roam the country side in comfort travelers offer the best options.

The largest of these will be around twenty four feet in length and fifteen feet tall. You will not find many with any kind of slide out extensions. The extra weight and bulk would serve to damage the overall package you are purchasing. The available models will sleep at least eight and will handle twelve if necessary.

The size of your selection will depend largely on what type of vehicle you have to tow it with. You will not be able to tow anything larger than a camper with a car. You must have a van or a large truck to accommodate a larger trailer that is designed for longer trips or full time living.

If you have a pick up you may want to look into fifth wheelers as an option. This type of trailer is hitched to a special set up in the bed of your pick up. They are as large as the travelers with the extra attraction of more sleeping or storage area located in the goose neck over the bed of the truck. This option allows for more living space for the body of your trailer.

The last option is the toy-haulers. These are designed with a platform on the back to accommodate the owner's toys such as dirt bikes, ATVs or bicycles. The platform takes living space from the interior of the vehicle and so the feel is somewhat less luxurious than the other models. They have been likened to a garage on wheels by some consumers.

There are numerous models and manufacturers of travel trailers for sale. Prior to purchase it is wise to look at several. Many dealers offer more than one manufacturer and several models from each. There is no reason that you would want to settle for less than exactly what you want when shopping for your home away from home. Some, but not all manufacturers will build a custom model for you should you not find the perfect fit on the sales lot.
