Great Value Musto Zara Phillips

By Kenya Campos

Back in 1964 avid sailor Keith Musto realized that there had to be a better alternative to the traditional sailing clothes he had been wearing. Finally sick of coming home soaking wet and cold, he began to research the possibility of producing a line of sailing gear that was waterproof, comfortable, stylish and affordable.

Traditional riding clothes were bulky and difficult to keep clean. Many had to be specially washed and dried, which made them very impractical. There was a huge gap in the market for well designed and functional clothes, that were also stylish and fun to wear. The Musto Zara Phillips brand has changed all that. Now a top ranked rider has lent not only her name, but also her expertise to the world of fashionable riding gear.

Growing up in the royal family Phillips has been around horses since she was a small child. Both her parents were champion riders with highly successful careers in their own right. She has gone on to emulate their achievements and was the world eventing champion in 2006, as well as being voted British Sports Personality of the Year.

Partnering with the Musto brand really gave the clothes credibility. As Zara herself has said many times, she wanted to design clothes that she herself would wear, not just create a brand and put her name on it. She has done an outstanding job of putting together a sporty yet practical line of riding wear that is easy to wear and looks great.

Many local tack stores carry the ZP 176 line of clothes. They can be a great place to compare and contrast the different features of the items. For example there are jackets that are water proof for foul weather riding and others that are merely shower repellent for spring and fall wear. Getting the right fit is also very important.

The knowledgeable and friendly sales staff are always on hand to help. They can give advice, help with sizing and order anything that is not in stock. Most people are very happy to work with their local store and enjoy having a good working relationship with the staff. Every purchase is important, from a new jacket to fun accessories such as socks or a belt.

For those who have to be outside in all weathers the Warm Up Jacket is a perfect fit. It has a hood for those really cold days, but this can easily be rolled up when not in use. The outer fabric is wind and water proof, and also blocks the wind. The polyurethane and polyester blend is easy to wash and care for, which is another nice feature as being around horses is messy work.

For warmer weather the zip front sweater is perfect. It can be worn alone or as an additional layer under a jacket. The one hundred percent polyester fabric is light and easy to care for. It is also water repellent and fast drying. This is an essential feature for outdoor use. Riders often have to spend many hours outside at horse shows and need to stay warm and cozy.
