Learning a new language is difficult for most people. To learn Mandarin in Los Angeles is however even more difficult for most non-native speakers. Mandarin is comprised of about four tones and is spoken in Taiwan and mainland China. Most non-natives find it difficult to learn and those who attempt to give up or take many years to study. To count from zero to ninety nine, one does not have to study new vocabulary. This is because 0 to 9 characters for 0 to 99 with just an additional letter to show how many ten. In addition, one may learn conversational phrases such as Hello and how are you to make simple conversation.

Mastering tones, conversational phrases and a simple vocabulary set the pace to build on the foundation. From here, you may want to try out the pin yin, a tool that converts Chinese letters of the Roman alphabet. From the pin yin, everything starts to make sense and this sets the pace for the next stage. The next stage, depending on the speed of learning and interest, is reading and writing.

Mandarin is a little bit difficult to learn, speak and fluently. You have to be patient and committed to the cause to master it. Speak it with anyone who understands it; listen to Radios and films done in the language. Also, read books and newspapers in Chinese to keep practicing. Certainly, it is a lot of work, but at the end, it is all worth it.
