By Francis Riggs

Making the transition from having your kids home with you during the day to taking them to day care for their very first day is big. You worry about their safety as long whether or not you have packed all the essentials they will need to make it through the day. There are some questions and concerns that you should have addressed before making the final day care drop-off. Find out whether or not all personnel have taken cpr aed first aid classes. You want your child to have the best care possible and this is information you need to know.

Label your childs belongings. You should put their name in and on everything that belongs to them. The same way you dropped them off, is the same way you want to pick them back up. It is very easy for children to misplace items throughout the classroom, so labeling their items will help identify them.

If you plan on taking junk food to the classroom be prepared to take something for everyone. However, this is actually not a good thing to do, but it is a method to keep parents from leaving their child behind eating cookies, while other children in the class do not have one. When a child sees another one with something they want, they usually cry and sometimes it can take a while to calm them down.

School time is the time to let your child run and have fun. Avoid dressing them up in hard bottom shoes, dresses, suits and other attire which you prefer not to get dirty. Save the dressy clothes for special family events, or bet yet school picture day.

Avoid taking baked goodies to the classroom. Not everyone can eat foods prepared by others at home, especially young children. There are so many children who have peanut allergies and their foods have to be thoroughly monitored. Also, be sure to know the children in your childs class and know their allergies as well.

For little ones who are still in in diapers, it is important that you have a large diaper supply. Your child most likely will need to be changed every two hours. Also, you will need to take along baby wipes and other items needed to make them comfortable during the day. Many day care facilities will allow you to leave a weeks worth of supplies for your child. However, be sure to check with the director.

Make sure you pack enough baby milk for children still taking bottles or breast milk. It should be enough to get your baby through the whole day. It is a good idea to also pack a little extra just in case your baby needs a bit more. For toddlers pack finger food, and in most cases schools supply breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the day. Be sure to let the facility and teachers know what foods your child is allowed to eat.

Each facility have their own policies about comfort items such as teething rings, pain reliever, pacifiers and other items. Speak with the centers director to find out their policies. Remember, your child is not the only one in the classroom, so the center has to do what is in the best interest and safety of everyone. It is always going to be tempting to send more for your child to daycare. However, your little one might not need everything you want to send. Some items you might think are harmless could cause enormous problems. Be sure to seek advice and permission before packing and just leaving items of question.
