Action Sports, Skateboarding and Skydiving in Seattle

By Barbara Smurlo

Few things in life can match the pure, unadulterated rush of jumping from an aircraft or building with only a parachute (one that hopefully opens) on your back. For just one or two seconds, one can feel the amazing power of Earth's gravitational pull. Welcome to action sports in Seattle. Action sports in Seattle encompasses a good range of events. Whether or not it's snowboarding, skydiving, skateboarding or supercross, there is not any absence of adrenaline pumping fun and excitement.

Sky diving in Seattle

Are you a noob looking to take your first plunge? There are multiple companies available for you to hire, and no lack of attractive landscape for you to look down at while you hop into the blue from an aeroplane door. A popular company in Seattle, skydiveseattle.com, offers first time plunges for noobs, advanced ratification for those wanting more, and also gift certificates for important occasions. For more experienced skydivers, Seattle also has a BASE jumping community. Not familiar? BASE jumping is a very threatening sport when referring to skydiving in Seattle. You won't be jumping from planes, rather planes, you'll be jumping from antennas, buildings, bridges and cliffs. Check some BASE forums to work out if you can connect up with some Seattle jumpers. Not your thing? The people at iFly supply an indoor offer a completely safe experience that seems like the actual deal.

Skate Parks in Seattle

So maybe you'd rather stay on hard ground. So would David Gravette and Cory Kennedy, both Nationally known skaters who grew up skating the Seattle urban landscape. Check out the assorted skate parks in Seattle that dot Seattle's landscape. Actually, Dot could be an understatement. Seattle is home to slightly under 83,000 square feet in skate-able park, with 8 new sites to open in the following year. So don't hold back. Grab your board and spend 1 or 2 days going to park to park and see what Seattle has to give.

Snowboarding in Seattle

Wrong time of the year for skateboarding? You're the lucky one there too. Washington boasts no less than 10 mountain resorts for snowboarders to enjoy. Although some of these might be a bit if a drive, The Summit and Snoqualmie is a mere one hour away, and Mt. Baker near Bellingham is not too much further. Joined with loads of places in which to stay, and year around events, Seattle snowboarders will have much to enjoy.

Supercross in Seattle

Seattle just happens to be home to a premier Supercross event, hosted by Monster Energy at CenturyLink Field on April 21, 2012. Supercross is a hybrid type of the more well known motocross. Instead of being held out of doors, Supercross is an inside event, regularly held at indoor sports arenas. As a result, the tracks are rather more technical, featuring tighter jumps and turns, and of course, more action. Who doesn't want more action?
