The Process For Teaching Tennis To Children

By Davis Pete

Tennis is a wonderful game which most people would concur. Tennis is able to provide a good workout for the heart as well introduce the element of sportsmanship and competition for all to enjoy and experience. Children will find such a game exciting and fun to play. It is a fairly easy sport to pick up. However, the tennis coach must be someone who works well with kids. Therefore, tennis lessons for kids are generally unlike that for grown ups.

In Singapore, we have many tennis courts and facilities for one to experience the sport. Hence, there should not be a problem when it comes to locating a tennis court. The main concern would be in determining the right instructor for the kid or children. An excellent tennis instructor is able to encourage and make the children appreciate the tennis lesson. The children should look ahead to the tennis lesson and find it an exciting event to attend. The instructor must be able to get the children to simply hit at the tennis ball at this point without getting too hung up on techniques at this level. Kids team training can be a excellent way to start as children like to mimic and be encouraged by their colleagues in doing new things.

Learning together with other kids alongside them can be a good place to start. However, if your child shows a strong aptitude and interest in the sport of tennis, you may also wish to give him individual tennis lessons to speed up his learning of the game. Learning correct techniques and the rules of the game are important at a young stage. Kids will be able to learn the game faster if they were to take part in some age group tennis tournaments.

The child also should appreciate that if the ball bounces more than once on his or her side, the opponent gains a point. He or she will pretty much understand that failing to hit the ball back over the net will also result in a missed point. Teaching the rules at the same time as technique is being learned helps a child better understand why staying alert is essential to winning a game.

If your child is talented and shows promising talent for the game, you should let him or her mature into the game, rather than force them to do well. Putting undue pressure on the child may break him mentally and physically as the child's body is not yet ready for such heavy duty punishment. In summary, it is better to let him enjoy the game and see how things transpires.
