Exploring In Fifth Wheel Trailers

By Cherry Mercer

For those who are enamored with seeing what lies over the next hill, fifth wheel trailers were invented. A recreational vehicle of sorts, it differs from many in the fact that you haul it rather than drive it. They offer a lot of room and supply all the comfort of living in a stationary home.

They are not hard to maneuver but do require a truck with enough engine power to haul them. The name fifth wheel came from the idea of a special hook-up that is installed in the bed of a pick-up truck. When arriving at a destination you unhook and set up the camper. Nothing could be easier.

The majority of campers are satisfied with the room these campers provide. For those who want even more space, some come with slide outs that provide a few extra feet where it is needed the most. You have a furnace for keeping away the chill and an air conditioner for those sultry summer days.

Storage can be problematic in any recreational vehicle, but with the spare room in the trailers every available space is made use of. There are even outdoor spaces to carry outdoor furniture. The bigger the unit the more storage one will have but if you pack wisely even a cross country trip can be made with only a few stops to replenish some supplies.

The kitchen comes fully equipped with a sink, stove, and refrigerator. Even the finest cooks will find themselves wanting for nothing. The living room is outfitted with comfortable seating to rest up from a long day on the road. You can watch the evening news or indulge in a movie. The evening can come to an end in a nice hot shower in the adequately sized bathroom.

There is literally no place the fifth wheel can't go. If you need to stop along the way for supplies, all you need is the length of two parking spaces. If you plan ahead, you can leave your towed home on site and go about your business using just the vehicle that was doing the towing. This is the most practical way of doing things because it is a way to save on gas as well as the wear and tear on your trucks engine.

There are a few things that might remove the wanderlust for some. These towed recreational campers are not cheap to own nor are they inexpensive to tow. The larger truck you need will use a lot of gasoline by itself. Add the weight of one these RVs and you won't get many miles to the gallon. Their are stairs to maneuver when entering the camper and a few more to get into the bedroom causing some further obstacles.

Still, you are seeing more and more fifth wheel trailers every day. There are those that go so far as to sell their home and spend their retirement years doing nothing but traveling. They will head for warmer climes in winter and then escape the heat of the south by heading north. Nothing could be more fun if you are suited to this kind of lifestyle.
