A Brief History Of Karate Hartford Ct

By Katrina Wheeler

Karate Hartford CT is known to be one of the most famous martial arts in the entire world and hails from none other than the country of Japan. Of course this particular combat art has a very rich history that starts from a tiny island in Japan which spread to other parts of the country until it became extremely huge. For people who are fans of this combat sport, this short history may be an interesting read.

Now according to the timeline of Japanese history, this art was first founded in a small island outside Japan named Okinawa. Now this art was first known as Te and was actually used as a form of self defense just in case there were attackers from a foreign land that will come in. Of course there were also friendly foreign travelers who were from China or Korea that shared some parts of their art to the Okinawans.

Of course eventually the Japanese people invaded this little island and also altered the style which the Okinawans called Te. Now the government did not allow the Okinawan people to hold any weapons which prompted the natives to further develop their style and also made use of household items as weapons instead. Eventually, the name was changed to Karate in order to please the invading Japanese.

Now the one who fused all different styles of Karate in the island in order to form one art was none other than Sensei Gichin Funakoshi who was known as a grandmaster. He was a student under two legendary masters known as Sensei Azato and Sensei Itosu. After he unified the art under the name Shotokan Karate, he decided to go outside of Okinawa to see what the other parts of the world were like.

When he arrived Japan, the sports organization of the country heard about this man and asked him to demonstrate his skills in a convention. Because of this demonstration, the founder of Judo, Kano Jigoro took interest on Funakoshi and invited him over to a Judo dojo in order to showcase Karate and some moves. It was at this point that many students gathered around in order to learn the Shotokan way.

After he gained many students, Funakoshi made many dojos in Japan where he became a teacher. When he retired, it was his son Yoshitaka who took over as teacher and began to experiment with many different techniques. When Ginchin Funakoshi could not practice anymore, he decided to write books on the art and how it came about.

Up until World War II, this ancient art was only practiced in Japan because the country closed its gates to the outside world. European forces were able to conquer some parts of Japan and they were able to learn some basic forms of the ancient art. From there, it was spread to many other countries in Europe and even North America.

Of course the fame of Karate Hartford CT spread even further and further until it became an international fad. Many movies of this ancient art came out which further boosted the popularity. It was also during this time that a lot of people decided to learn this martial art because of the popularity.
