Keen Look Into Swallowing Disorders

Dysphagia is a term used to refer to feeling difficulty in passing food or even liquid from our mouth through to the mouth to stomach. Swallowing disorders are common to every age group but especially the elderly. These problems are caused by mainly temporal factors that are not threatening. They rarely represent serious diseases for example tumor. One should let these disorders to clear by themselves failure to which he or she should see a doctor.

You swallow many times in one day. These include when you swallow saliva and mucus produced by your body. You start off with preparation stage where your mouth chews food. Then you push the food to the back of your mouth with the aid of the tongue in a process known as oral stage. Pharynx stage is where you pass the foods and liquids through pharynx. The final stage will be passing this food from mouth to stomach through esophagus. This is in a stage known as esophagus stage.

You have control in only the first two stages. The others do happen without much of your input. You may experience the following symptoms causing such disorders; a feeling that the food you take tends to sticks in your throat, your throat causing discomforts, chocking that happens due to food not passing easily which will cause it to get sucked into lungs, change of your voice, and drooling.

When these disorders persist, they are not temporal and therefore the mouth and throat needs to be examined by a doctor. This is done using mirrors. Sometimes someone is inserted a small tube in the nose and the patient eats food when the scope is on the throat. These procedures provide the visual images of the back of our tongue.

Medicine can be used in treating many of these disorders. These are drugs that will make the production of acid in the stomach slower, relaxants, and antacids. The treatment of each of the problems is normally tailored to the type. Gastro esophagus reflux is treatable by adapting eating habits such as; avoiding alcohol and tobacco, reducing weight and stress and consumption of a balanced diet. In case this does not help, one can use the help of antacids between meals.

You can treat Swallowing problems by taking medicine, undergoing surgery and also swallowing therapy. This therapy will need you to practice special exercises which have been designed to stimulate swallow flex causing nerves. You can also be taught on how to place food in your throat and positioning our body and head when you are eating.

Surgery can be used to treat certain problems. The throat may need to be stretched. For a tight muscle, it might need to be released surgically or dilated. Many diseases can contribute to swallowing problems. In case the problem persists, he or she is advised to see a neck surgeon.

Finally, challenges can arise when the process of swallowing is disturbed. You can help avoid them when you start eating slowly and chew thoroughly. You must know that there are many more causes. The most common is acid from your stomach rise to pharynx
