Visitors who think that Philadelphia's art scene climaxes with Robert Indiana's Love sculpture and the Rocky statue will be happy to know that the City of Brotherly Love is rife with great art destinations. American history might be foremost in most people's minds when thinking about Philly, but the art and culture that flows thru Philly is equally as amazing as Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. A vibrant local art community prospers in the city and the gigantic number of Philadelphia art galleries available makes their work available to enjoy

First Friday in Philly

Seeded all throughout the city - from the outdoor mosaics of Philadelphia's Magic Gardens to the Picasso's hanging in the Museum of Art - there are galleries in Philadelphia that cater to tastes from eclectic to conventional. Many of the galleries are located in the Old Town district and are open for viewing in the favored "First Friday" art events.

Slingluff Gallery

Situated in Fishtown and owned by Jonathon Slingluff and his partner Leigh, the Slingluff's offer monthly exhibits that may range all the way from local street art to modern art from around the globe. This is undoubtedly one of the more popular Philadelphia art galleries thanks to the rotating exhibits that appeal to introductory art backers as well as those with a more practiced eye.

Locks Gallery

Occupying a stately 3-story building in Washington Square, Locks Gallery enjoys a reputation as one of the foremost art galleries in Philadelphia. Utilizing its influence in world art circles, it has helped raise the profile of a few local artists including Edna Andrade, Jane Irish and others.

The Clay Studio

Part of the Old Town gallery district, The Clay Studio was started to give new artists a place to work and display their creations. It has since developed into the best spot in Philadelphia to see and purchase unique arts. With the gallery and store, The Clay Studio also offers classes for those that want to create their own art.

Schmidt-Dean

For over 25 years Christopher Schmidt has been exhibiting his work and that of others from his Chestnut Street gallery. A former "Best of Philly" winner, Schmidt exhibits a large range of work includingsculpture, photography and painting, usually by local artists.

Biello Martin Studio

Michael Biello and Dan Martin, together with architectural designer Carlo Fiammenghi have grouped together to bring one of the most eclectic art spaces in the country to the city of Philadelphia. This Old Town studio/gallery conjures up the salon atmosphere of Europe, where works of all mediums are on display.
