Fifth Wheel Trailers For Universal Living

By Tanisha Berg

Leisure living has thousands of designs to choose from. To start, one must choose between 30 or 50 amp fifth wheel trailers. The higher the amperage the more items you can have running a the same time. As an example, one person can be making coffee and warming up lunch in the microwave while another is blow drying his or her hair. Other options include single or multiple slide outs, making rooms much larger. Other differences include winterized packages or a package with power or manual awnings.

One design changes the name of the home on wheels. When the trailer has a hitch on one side and a ramp on the back end of it, they are called toy haulers. Toy haulers give you the freedom to load toys such as ATVs, motorcycles, snow mobiles, and scooters.

Because the home is mobile, everything is small and compact, including appliances and electronics. The microwave is large enough to warm up one meal and the oven has one or two very small racks. A cake can be baked in the oven but will also need to be very small. The range hood is a little bit bigger than the microwave above.

More people are choosing to live in fifth wheels full time to downsize. Downsizing makes a person or family downsize possessions as well. This option is cheaper than apartment dwelling and includes solitude and a backyard. Several RV parks offer free cable, internet, water and sewage which is not an option for any other type of abode.

These trailers use liquid propane which can be an advantage. The portability and ease in refilling makes it easy for the consumer. Depending on the size of the tank, refilling may also be an interruption. On a daily basis the propane is used for warming water, use on the stove, and oven as well. In the winter the gas is used to keep the trailer warm and comfortable which creates an excess use.

Another downside is weather or not the purchaser already has a full sized truck or SUV. A certain size and weight is necessary to pull a large trailer. When the purchaser already has an automobile to pull, then this issue is void. Something to consider is renting a vehicle to pull the home or requesting assistance from a fellow neighbor. Requesting assistance has its limitations because of distance.

Pulling the home is easily done, so traveling and moving on a whim to any location is feasible. Little effort is needed when moving from one place to another. The sewage, water, and electricity is the only thing connected to the ground. Slide outs are easily pulled back in with a switch similar to a light switch. Moving is as simple as finding an RV park with an empty lot or pulling alongside a tent on a beach side. The difference between a tent and a fifth wheel is comfort and amenities.

Class A trailers can be driven rather than pulled; however, comes with all the added upkeep of a vehicle. A class A is not as cost efficient as the fifth wheel. The lack of motor and other vehicle maintenance eliminates the added expense. In addition, eliminates the situation where the home is immovable because the automotive does not work.
