Features Of A Pistol Display Stand

By Claudette Lambert

The usual pistol display stand can accommodate several weapons in a case or it can be just one gun, which is often mounted on a post that can be vertically adjusted. Clamps usually hold the gun barrel in place and the stand should include a number of security features to deter its removal.

Handgun stands are used to present many different weapons and can be used at trade events, fairs and in retail outlets. Individuals that collect guns can also use these at home to show off their collections.

In the past, dealers have displayed their weapons without much fanfare, actually leaving them on tables or counters. Some would leave them lying around in shipping boxes or on a shelf, just like any other type of produce. Eventually, they realized that presenting the product in a desirable fashion would not only sell it quicker, it would deter theft. Therefore, the advent of the aesthetic weapon display for revolvers and handguns was born.

Sometimes dealers put guns in holding trays, which are able to house far more than one firearm. Trays are storage devices that allow the gun barrels to sit parallel to each other, which meant one had to be stored upside down.

In the past, Storage for more than two weapons was catered for by a unit with slots that supported several handguns and allowed the product to lean sideways. None of the displays were usually that secure though, meaning they didn't really protect the product against theft. Many of the more valuable guns nowadays are housed behind counters with modern designs and more safety features, such as toughened glass and alarms.

In order to have a firearms stand on the counter, it is imperative that the base of the unit be solid enough to support the weight of the guns. The units are usually made from a choice of three materials: metal, plastic and wood. Ordinarily, they are shaped like a rectangle and are adjustable, to accommodate the many different sizes of firearm on the market today.

Security is one of the greatest concerns when it comes to storing firearms. A stand should clamp the barrel of a firearm in place, making sure it is elevated and cannot topple over. It needs to secure the weapon in such a manner as to provide a deterrent to theft and to anyone wishing to play around with it. What should not be forgotten is that the stand itself needs to be secure. For added security, some will use a cable to hold the display in place, meaning it is attached to a counter or wall by the cable and cannot be moved. That way people can't just walk in and take the stand with the guns still inside.

The bottom line is that choosing a pistol display stand comes down to more than just price. Security is one of the most important considerations because if the stand is easy to steal or easy for children to get into, then it is not doing its job. Another, some would say secondary, consideration are the aesthetics of the case. Going for a unit made of metal, wood or plastic could come down to personal preference or could depend on what material fits in with the decor of the home, office, dealership or wherever the weapons are stored.
